30 day song challenge – day 26 – a song that you can play on an instrument

*I'm taking the song challenge to mean "of all time," not genre-specific. Any of these songs are subject to change at any time.

This was a hard one because I used to play violin, but I hated it and honestly it was years ago and well before I discovered there was good (read: fun) and different (read: not classical) music that was out there for violin. I played by ear, never learned sheet music, and loathed the instrument.

I thought I'd share the song that was the biggest pain in the ass to play, part of the William Tell Overture.

Here's 3 chicks playing it.

When I was a kid and a teenager I loved going to my Aunt Vicki and Uncle Ron's house because Ron indulged my love of music. It was he who introduced me to The Beatles. He plays lots of instruments and appreciates good music. Back when "No One is to Blame" came out he showed me how to play it on piano. I'm not sure if I can still play it, but it's one of my favorites.

30 day song challenge – day 25 – a song that makes you laugh

*I'm taking the song challenge to mean "of all time," not genre-specific. Any of these songs are subject to change at any time.

Okay, I was going to pick Ben Fold's "Levi Johnston's Blues" because it's funny and awesome, but the song that makes me laugh is The Beatles' "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number." This is a long song, but completely worth listening to and/or making it your ringtone for fun.

30 day song challenge – day 24 – a song that you want to play at your funeral

Prof. Dr. Hilljary said this topic was morbid, but I'm fine with it. I want my funeral to be fun. I've told the hubs many times that I want a closed hot pink casket with the best picture ever taken of me on top. I'd like everyone to wear pink. I don't want a bunch of flowers. For goodness sake – no candles. Maybe a magician. And I'd like some men from Chippendales to carry the casket. I don't need pallbearers. I want people to tell funny stories and I want "When They Ring Them Golden Bells" by Natalie Merchant played on a ghettoblaster. I'd also like "Nightshift" by the Commodores. Yes, I have a sense of humor.

I used to love the TLC.

I would totally watch Dwarf Hoarders, Uterus Cannon, and Hasty Home Surgery. And Cake Whores. Cake Whores may be my favorite new phrase, as in, "who is that by the cake?" "oh, that cake whore? That's Sheila." Yes, I like it.

By the way, real shows on TLC include Little Chocolatiers, Extreme Couponing, and Strange Sex.

30 day song challenge — day 23 – a song that you want to play at your wedding

*I'm taking the song challenge to mean "of all time," not genre-specific. Any of these songs are subject to change at any time.

The hubs and I were married in 1997. We had a church wedding and reception, no booze, no dancing, no fun music. It was the way I wanted it because I was a teetotaler and there are alcoholics in the family (this was before the days of You Tube, when it wouldn't have been funny to have drunk relatives acting a fool).

What I did was have the pianist play a few of my favorite lovey-dovey songs before I walked down the aisle. "Here, There, and Everywhere" was one.

30 day song challenge: dday 18 – a song that you wish you heard on the radio

*I'm taking the song challenge to mean "of all time," not genre-specific. Any of these songs are subject to change at any time.

As I said yesterday, I don't listen to the radio. If I listened to the radio, there are lots of songs I'd love to hear – so I'll pick two. Nataly Dawn's cover of Rufus Wainwright's "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" is one. I simply adore this song. I like Dawn's version more than the original, it's good stuff. The lyrics are wonderful and her voice suits the song perfectly. Enjoy.

My other pick would be Stars' "Your Ex-Lover is Dead." This band is new to me and I am smitten. The girl singer's voice reminds me of Juliana Hatfield (and I love Juliana Hatfield). This song is wonderful.

Some of the best lyrics I've heard in years:

"There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save"

what would joan crawford do?

Sometimes when a situation comes up  that is out of the ordinary (and for me, it would have to be some crazy mess because my life is comprised of weirdness), it's best to channel Joan Crawford.

Joan could handle a bitch. Joan wouldn't put up with your shit. Joan would tell you off, then tell Bette Davis off for fun. And that was when she was in a good mood. People knew Joan was crazy and for the most part they stayed out of her way because people usually steer clear of crazy.

Of course, that was before the interwebs. Now people hide behind anonymity from their desks on the interwebs, but I tend to think Joan would have signed her blog posts and comments with "who the eff else? I'm Joan Mothereffin' Crawford."

She always had the last word, even bitch slapping two of her children from beyond the grave in the form of her will.

That's cold, yo.

So, because I was raised to be nice (pffft), when it comes to dealing with fools, channeling Joan is what I do. And I'm asking myself "what would would Joan Crawford do?"

I think I know the answer.

That's what Joan would say. Then she'd slap someone.

And yes, I know that's Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in the documentary Mommie Dearest, but still.
