30 day movie challenge — day 23: movie with your favorite soundtrack

I've said it many times before, my favorite soundtrack is from Pretty in Pink. That soundtrack is responsible for setting my musical tastes for years to come as well as introducing me to several bands I still love. The soundtrack is perfect for the movie and works superbly as a stand-alone compilation.

For fun, here are some of the songs off the soundtrack. First up is Psychedelic Furs — the original recording of "Pretty in Pink," not the too-perfect one re-recorded for the movie (although the movie version is great).

An amazing song, "Bring on the Dancing Horses" by Echo & the Bunnymen.

"Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega.

And the great Nik Kershaw with the original version of "Wouldn't It Be Good." The original is 100 times better than Danny Hutton's soundtrack version (and this clip is so much easier to watch that Nik with the old mullet).

30 day movie challenge — day 22: movie you wish you could live in

The movie I would most like to live in would be You've Got Mail. I would also live in When Harry Met Sally, but like Meg's apartment more in You've Got Mail. I adore this movie — Meg Ryan's bookstore (I could own that bookstore), her friends, her apartment, coffee shops, and Tom Hanks. I think the settings in this film are lovely, the characters are wonderful, and BOOKS. I love the idea of living in New York despite never having been there and only falling in love with it in romantic comedies. Is that weird?

30 day movie challenge — day 21: movie with your favorite actor

This category is extremely difficult for me because 1) my boyfriend, Alec Baldwin and 2) Mr. George Clooney. I decided to go with George because 1) he is Gary Grant reincarnated and 2) I've loved him since his days on The Facts of Life

Here's the trailer for O Brother, Where Art Thou?

And because I love you people, here is the Facts of Life intro with George.

30 day movie challenge — day 18: film that is your guilty pleasure

If I count Mommie Dearest as one of my favorite movies what on earth could I list as a guilty pleasure?

Okay, fine — The Legend of Billie Jean.

First of all, this movie is hella awesome. I'm only calling it a guilty pleasure because it's one of the only movies I would have to majorly defend if someone called and said "hey, whatcha doing?"

Second, it stars Helen AND Christian Slater. Win.

Third, according to IMDB, Pat Benatar states at her concerts before belting into "Invincible," "This is from the worst movie ever made."

4. The Texas accents are hilariously bad.

5. It features a running-through-a-mall scene with a Billy Idol song.

6. Helen Slater cuts her hair after gaining inspiration from Joan of Arc.

    A. I cut one of my Barbie's hair and made a Billie Jean outfit for her after seeing this movie in 1985.

    B. I may have gotten a similar haircut in 1985.

7. The plot of this movie is absofreakinglutely ridiculous: Billie Jean stands up for her brother who had a scooter or something trashed by local teenagers and gets taken for $608. After accidentally shooting the guy who took her for the money (to pay for the scooter), she goes on the run with the brother and two friends. She watches a Joan of Arc movie and cuts her hair off, makes a video saying "fair is fair" and sends it to local news stations and has a stand off at the end. No guns.

8. The movie could never be made today and there will never be a remake because look –

new glasses

These are the new glasses. I have to wear them for distance now because I'm old. They're Paul Smith frames (I started typing "Paul Simon" because it's 2:45 am and I can't sleep and thing are starting to get silly). The reviews on the glasses on my face are mixed. I like them.

30 day movie challenge — day 17: an overrated movie

Dear Readers,

There are several movies I think are overrated. Some of you will be fightin' mad if I say that these films are overrated, so I think I will go with one that may not make me lose any of you. If you are good friends of mine, you know what these movies are anyway and we have probably argued about this — but come on, one of my favorite movies of all time is Mommie Dearest, so why would you care what I think about the most popular science fiction/fantasy/nutjob movies of the past decade or so? You shouldn't. You should go about your day loving Gandalf the Grey or White and your preciouses and bullet-dodging guys in black trench coats and sunglasses and boy wizards with pet owls and shiny ass vampires who break all the rules of vampirehood set by Bram Stoker — but what do I know?

Don't listen to me.

My example of an overrated movie is My Big Fat Greek Wedding, even though that will probably offend my Greek readers. Sorry, Greeks.

Love,

Kerry

P.S. Avatar too.
