1.137/365: and the award for best actor goes to…

I was a great actress for a long time. Until the depression started bubbling over. At times I slip back into that role when I tell people I’m doing “fine.” I still struggle, but not nearly as much. Not even close.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. If you’re struggling, reach out. There is help. The stigma is being knocked away as I write this. You can be ok. You don’t have to be Best Actress.

2.135/365: just snap out of it

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I’ll be posting something each day for the rest of the month here daily.

I found a fantastic illustrator who is great with words. She’s Marissa Betley; you can find her on Instagram.

No one’s ever said that exactly to me. But I’ve heard variations:

“Just get some exercise.”

“Get some sun — it’s a beautiful day.”

“Get more sleep.”

“Get out of bed.”

“Take a shower.”

“Get out of the house.”

“I heard of this book…”

“My brother/sister/cousin was depressed and they only needed …”

“Do you take vitamins?”

“You should try _________oils.”

“Have you tried this Bible study?”

“Maybe it’s your diet. You should go __________free.”

Only twice had a friend say “you need to see a doctor. That is my experience.
