5.153/365: month of self care day 3

Release the pressure and give yourself grace.

It has been an intense month with my husband ending one job and starting a new job, the end of school and my kids’ finals, and my middle child graduating from high school.

Today I took a longer time than normal to pick up groceries and ordered a vanilla Coke with easy ice and sat in a Sonic drive-in stall listening to a podcast. A little me time. A little grace.

5.152/365: month of self care day 2

Do something fun you wouldn’t normally let yourself enjoy.

I made a new dish for dinner. Now, I like to cook. I’m a good cook, but my family isn’t super adventurous. We’re trying to eat a little healthier without sacrificing flavor — actually amping up the flavor.

So, I made Korean beef rice bowls tonight. A couple of new ingredients to me — but pretty foreign to my family. My husband loved it, my son tried it, my girls did not try it — but I can’t please everyone. It was fun to make. I love any reason to use my micro-plane (for ginger and nutmeg)!

We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

5.151/365: month of self care

I didn’t do much for Mental Health Awareness Month, so I’m making June month of self-care. Feel free to follow along and read, participate or both.

Here’s what it will look like;

It’s Day 1, so we’re taking two minutes to breathe. Just breathe.

Done. It made me think of one of my favorite songs, “Breathe (2 am)”. I first heard it on Grey’s Anatomy and it’s been an anxiety mainstay song. Give it a listen.

5.147/365: Ted Cruz gets yelled at in a restaurant.

Ted Cruz got yelled at last night for being a Republican asshole attending the annual NRA convention in Houston in the state he represents in the Senate. In the state where a mass shooting killed 19 children and two adults less than a week ago. This should happen every time had leaves the house.
