A song by an artist from Baltimore. I give you my forever boyfriend, Adam Duritz, lead singer of Counting crows with a mix of “Rain King/Raining in Baltimore.” This is the arrangement I saw them perform in Houston. So good. I get extra points that the song is about Baltimore, even though we’re not keeping score.
5.328/365: November song challenge — Day 26
A song about turkey lurkey time (aka Thanksgiving). Like Hilly said, why wasn’t this on Thursday? On, here’s the deal: there are zero good Thanksgiving songs, plus, I’m made the extra rule for myself that I’m only picking songs I own. So, Thanksgiving was out. My next thought was my boy, John Mayer, and his skbg “St. Patrick’s Day.” but no, he only mentions November. Ok, let’s think. Songs that mention turkeys. Cold turkey. Alright, that’s a start — I’ve got John Lennon and a song by Weezer I couldn’t remember the name of. “Cold Turkey” has Yoko Ono’s terrible vocals, if I dare to call them that. So, that leaves “One More Hit” by Weezer. You’re welcome for the mental gymnastics it took for today’s post.
5.327/365: November song challenge — Day 25
A song that goes back and forth from singing to rapping. Hillary stole my pick.
The only one I own and really like, despite Kanye (but before we knew he was woohoo). Here’s Estelle with “American Boy.”
5.326/365: NovemberSobg challenge —day 24
A song with backing vocals by a duo, trio, or choir.
First song that come to mind — Amy Winehouse’s “Me and Mr. Jones.”
Day 5.325/365: November song challenge — Day 23
A song that mentions Washington Heights, the Upper West Side, or 42nd Street.
Nope. I got nothing. I don’t google these things and I didn’t find anything in my iTunes library, so I’m going with “Washington Square” by Counting Crows.
5.324/365: November song challenge — day 22
A song about doing something (anything) better than someone.
This was a hard one because I already used “There’s Always Someone Cooler Than You,” so I had to think for a minute. Duh, it could only be “I’m Still Standing” by Sir Elton John.
5.323/365: November song challenge — day 21
A song about someone who’s a little bit racist.
This was the only song that jumped to mind because I listened to this album like crazy for about a year. Also, because it’s about a friend, not racism in general.
Here’s “Your Racist Friend” by They Might Be Giants.
5.323/223: November song challenge — day 19
A song imploring someone to play it cool.
This was a song I liked back in the day and while it may not fit the day because it’s more about being cool, I’m still using it.
Here’s Digable Planets with “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”.
5.322/365: November song challenge — day 18
A song by someone from Texas, Oklahoma, or Memphis.
Shut up. The Queen. The Queen enters the blog. My pretties, our Queen of Soul was born in Memphis, she she was. Today I’m giving you my favroute song of hers today. It changes because she recorded so many great ones. But this one has so many “shut up — she said that?” lines, that it’s perfect.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is “Dr. Feelgood (Love Is A Serious Business)”. Yes, it is.
5.321/365: November song challenge — day 17
A song about sugar, butter, flour, pies, or just baking.
I am a contrarian, and y’all know I’m only going with songs and bands I listen to. So, I’m giving you R.E.M.’s “Imitation of Life.” Now, this video is weird. Someone in the YouTube comments explained how it was filmed and the outcome. It’s wacky and I’ve never seen anything like it.
