6.44/365: February challenge day 13 — What’s in your make-up bag

This is a photo of the contents of the makeup pocket of the purse on a previous post.

Here we have the grapefruit melon scented lip balm from my dentist’s office, the retired shade Make Me Blush by L’Oreal, Ulta’s magnifying balm (it’s amazing), L‘Oreal True Match powder, and the set of four mini shades of Pillow Talk by Charlotte Tilbury. The shades are great, but I find the lipstick a little dry.

6.43/354: February challenge day 11 — favorite recipe

I somehow skipped a day.

My favorite recipe is probably Pumpkin Breas. This comes from Ince Upon a Chef.

Pumpkin Bread

Servings: Makes 2 loaves

Prep Time: 20 Minutes

Cook Time: 65 Minutes

Total Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup and leveled-off
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1½ sticks (¾ cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (15-oz) can 100% pure pumpkin (I use Libby’s)
  • INSTRUCTIONS
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F and set an oven rack in the middle position. Generously grease two 8 x 4-inch loaf pans with butter and dust with flour (alternatively, use a baking spray with flour in it, such as Pam with Flour or Baker’s Joy).In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined; set aside. In a large bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar on medium speed until just blended. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Continue beating until very light and fluffy, a few minutes. Beat in the pumpkin. The mixture might look grainy and curdled at this point — that’s okay.
  • Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until combined.Turn the batter into the prepared pans, dividing evenly, and bake for 65 – 75 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the loaves cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Fresh out of the oven, the loaves have a deliciously crisp crust. If they last beyond a day, you can toast individual slices to get the same fresh-baked effect.Freezer-Friendly Instructions: The bread can be frozen for up to 3 months. After it is completely cooled, wrap it securely in aluminum foil, freezer wrap or place in a freezer bag. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

6.42/635: February challenge day 12 — Your death row meal

This is a tough one because I like lots of different foods. It’s going to be weird because I love Asian, Mexican, and Southern American foods.

Ok, let’s ignore what I would have done to be sentenced to death row, and get to the meal. Im using it the seven course outline, as I did for my imaginary dinner guest post. And if I’m going out, I’m going with all carbs.

First course (hors d’oeuvre): different sushi rolls and mini fish tacos

Second (soup): beef pho

Third (appetizer): shrimp and grits

Fourth (no salad, doing a cheese plate): cheese plate with my favorite cheeses.

Fifth (main course): fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, black-eyed peas, and cornbread (yes, I know I only swapped out one vegetable from my 10 guests dinner, but it’s my funeral).

Sixth (dessert): Crème brûlée

Seventh (coffee/after dinner drink): coffee with kaluha

6.40/365: February challenge day 9 — your blog’s meaning

It’s my name.

I had a blog for a while for my scrapbooking called Scraps and Lagniappe (lagniappe is “extra” in Louisiana), but that blog became more of the lagniappe part, so when I switched to Typepad, I changed it. Then I got fed up with Typepad constanly changing their interface and I got hosting and design for my own site on WordPress, and now I’m back to the less expensive, but very functional WordPress. That’s about it.

6.37/365: February challenge day 6 — List 10 people, dead or alive, you could have dinner with. Include the menu.

Easy.

Aretha Franklin, Ernest Hemingway, Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Steve Jobs, Sam Cooke, Teddy Roosevelt, Queen Elizabeth I, Walt Disney, and Benjamin Franklin. And Mark Twain if any of the 10 couldn’t make it.

I’m picking a southern themed seven course meal for the dinner party because Aretha, Zelda, Sam, and I are originally from the American south. And I 100% believe the others would be all about fried chicken.

First course (hors d’oeuvre): pimento cheese canapés with caviar

Second (soup): duck and andouille gumbo

Third (appetizer): crab cakes

Fourth (salad): wedge

Fifth (main course): fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, greens, and corn bread

Sixth (dessert): peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream

Seventh (coffee/after dinner drink): coffee with kaluha
