I wanted to share a blog I just adore and thought you might like this July desktop the artist made. It's called Happy Doodle Land (I know, the cuteness is too much) and Flora Chang makes a doodle every day, and shares her design work. It's just great. Go to her blog to download the desktop, but here is a peek at what is on my desktop this month.
saturday style: Prince
Did you watch the BET awards? I didn't either, but Prince was given a lifetime achievement award for general awesomeness. Let's go to the pictures.
"Why yes, I am wearing a one-of-a-kind shirt with my face on it to an award show where I will be given an award honoring the one and only me."
Is it me or does this shirt look like those Lisa Frank notebooks with rainbows and unicorns all the kids had to have back in the day? Poor Patti LaBelle had to close her eyes. Don't worry, Patti, it will be okay.
Tell me that's not eerie similar.
"That's right, it's not an award, but I caught it so it's mine – like Mardi Gras, bitches!"
"I would like to thank myself for being such a genius and a pioneer and a snazzy dresser. Remember the peek-a-boo butt pants? Yeah, that was me. I would like to announce the launch of my new clothing line PRINCE 4 UR AZZ, which will be a partnership by myself and the lovely rainbowfied Lisa Frank. Peace."
happy Canada Day
your summer birthday gift guide #4
It's Kerry here with your summer birthday gift guide for those hot people in your life born in June, July, and August. You may know someone with a birthday coming up, don't worry – I'm here to help.
Maybe your birthday person is a foodie.
They enjoy a good meal and seek out great restaurants, love to visit new areas for regional delicacies and guess ingredients while they sip their soup.
Take them to lunch or dinner.
Take them for sushi. Sushi is fun because you share. Do not take a person who is not familiar with sharing. I've seen fights breakout over who gets the last Burning Man Roll. People will stab you with a chopstick for a good roll, people.
Pictured is the Kazoku Roll the hubs and I had at Kazoku in Mandeville over the weekend. It was absolutely divine. Salmon, tempura shrimp, avocado, topped with crab and crunchy. I almost stabbed him with a chopstick for the last one. I kid, I kid. But I did have the last one. He knows I take my sushi seriously.
We ordered four rolls, but our waiter only brought three. I started to think he delivered our Playboy Roll to the table across from us. The table of three across from us kept getting roll after roll after roll. I counted seven in all. Seven rolls is a hella lot of sushi. They also had soup and tempura. When the waiter brought the Playboy Roll, they said "we got the Hawaii and the Playboy?" They knew they didn't order the Playboy. I know from a previous visit that the Hawaii is basically the Playboy with a little mango thrown in. I am not a mango person. I told the hubs I believed the other table ate our roll. I gave them looks. I'm pretty sure he thought I was going to stab them with my chopsticks.
The hostess came over, told us that indeed the ravenous people at the other table ate our roll because the waiter, who had only been there for one week brought it to their table by mistake.
Here are the sushi scavengers.
Here is the thing: there is sushi etiquette.
You do not eat directly from the platter.
You do not pour soy sauce on piece of sushi.
You do not cut your sushi like a steak.
And you sure as heck don't act like you ordered the Playboy Roll and eat it.
photo study: I love baseball
I'm not sure if I'm mentioned this before, but I love the baseball. I don't know what it is – the spirit of the game, the excitement of all bases loaded with two outs, the concessions you can only get at baseball games, the seventh inning stretch, the tight pants…
It truly is America's game.
Knowing this, Prince Harry came across the pond to throw out the first pitch at the Mets vs. Twins game last week. Luckily, someone took pictures.
Someone get this boy a uniform. Look at that form, that arm – he clearly needs to be in the majors. Prince Harry, say goodbye to your polo pony and get a green card, honey. America needs you. I'm emailing the President on your behalf later today. Maybe we could do an exchange – England can have Beyonce. And JLo.
Off the subject, but have I mentioned how much I admire all branches of the military, our nation's allies included?

Maybe the person you're shopping for is one crafty mo' fo'. You know what I'm talking about. She's got 2 glue guns – low and hot temp, has a speck of glitter on her face for no reason whenever you see her, and refers to her scrapbooking friends as the Crafty Gangstas.
She could use this set of stamps.
And because it's awesome, here's the video, "Crafty" by J-Krafty.
Some people have been known to break into your house and decoupage your mama if they don't get a birthday gift. Just sayin'.

Maybe the person on your list is a coffee connoisseur. Once again, I'm not naming names. The Kerry Blog is a place of love and acceptance.
Fact: coffee is delicious.
Fact: God gave us coffee beans to make delicious coffee.
Fact: God made smart people to invent the Tassimo SYSTEM so we can enjoy the delicious coffee even mo bettah.
The Tassimo uses T-discs that can make coffee, hot tea, cappuccino, and hot chocolate. It's amazing.
Just look at all those cups. Mmmm.

Maybe the person on your list is a purse aficionado. I'm not naming names. How cute is the Vera Bradley Reversible Tote in Make Me Blush?
The side pockets are perfect for an iPhone and keys.
Did I mention it's reversible?
That's like getting two purses.
I mean, really.
FYI: "Make Me Blush" (by L'oreal) happens to be the shade of pink lipstick I wear. Coincidence? I think not.
Saturday style: I love a hat
New regular feature announcement: I'm introducing the Saturday Style.
Last Saturday it was pink Sperrys, this week it's crazy ass hats from Royal Ascot. What, by golly, is the Royal Ascot, you ask? Why, it's only one of THE social events of year in England! It's a multi-day horse race with a strict dress code (think Kentucky Derby on crack) and was held this week. Let's go to the pictures!
Do I even have to tell you how many outfits I have that would go with this hat?
Love this one.
I want this hat for my birthday.
Now that's a bow.
Super cute.
If this were in hot pink I would have to have it.
This is how I would do subtle.
And now for the crazies.
Do you know how much I love blue cheese?
Cheesy.
Fruity.
Oh Captain, my Captain.
Delicious.

Beck’s Record Club: INXS
Perusing Mentalfloss.com last night I read about Beck's Record Club, which has so far recorded the music or The Velvet Underground (I know, shut up), Leonard Cohen, and now INXS' album Kick. I know.
From Beck's site:
Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens.
This is genius. Some of the tracks flat-out blew my mind – "New Sensation" for instance. I've played this 42 times.
This is good stuff.
And you could say they took "Mediate" in an, um, different direction.
Beck is alone on "Loved One". He did a fantastic job.
"Never Tear Us Apart" makes me want to pick up the violin again, but I am against torture. St. Vincent's vocals are perfect for this song.
That was enjoyable. And the way to make '80s music relevant and refreshing. Go Beck.
