29 day television challenge: day 25 – OMG WTF? season finale

Man, I've been waiting for this one.

The Colbys.

The Colbys was a Dynasty spin-off in the 80s. It was one of the shows I watched with my mom (because it was so appropriate for an 11 year-old to watch). The Colbys was centered around Fallon, who was on Dynasty. Charlton Heston was on the show. Here is the description of the finale:

Sable kidnaps Scott Cassidy. Phillip kidnaps Francesca and Jason and Jeff try to rescue her, but a car crash leaves Francesca near death. Fallon attempts to find Frankie herself, but ends up lost in the desert, where she is kidnapped by a UFO.

Now, The Colbys was not an X-Files type show. There were no sci-fi elements leading up to Fallon being abducted by aliens. It wasn't part of an on-going storyline, there was no alien uncle in the cast. It was freaking bizarre. I should also mention that Fallon reappears in the next season of Dynasty with no mention of the abduction. HILARIOUS.

And that was the end. Most insane fnale ever.

29 day television challenge: day 23 – best quote

from Meredith, Grey's Anatomy:

"But the thing is, it’s hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely, because almost everyone has that smallest bit of faith and hope that one day they would open their eyes and it would all come true. At the end of the day, faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don’t really expect it. It’s like one day you realize that the fairy tale is slightly different than your dream. The castle, well it may not be a castle. And it’s not so important that it’s happily ever after — just that it’s happy right now. See, once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you. And once in awhile, people may even take your breath away."

I just love that.

29 day television challenge: day 21 – favorite series finale

ER

We're going to talk about the episode that made me cry (numerous times because I watched the show for so long and the characters were so well-written and well-acted that – WHEW, LET ME CATCH MY BREATH.)

I don't like drama in my life, but tv is fair game, people.

Okay, here's the story. I loved ER. It's one of those shows that made me care about the characters. Also, it had George Clooney in it for a long time. So, ER was on for 15 seasons. I was almost as emotionally invested in the show as I was my marriage – for real, the hubs and I had been dating for six months when ER premiered. There was a group of us in college who would watch the show together. None of us were in medical majors. People knew not to call me when it was on.

Allow me to geek out and silently yell OMG at the following ER moments from the course of the series:

  • when Dr. George Clooney, I mean, Doug Ross saves a boy in a flood
  • when Dr. Greene died in Hawaii and the ukelele version of "Over the Rainbow" plays
  • when Dr. Romano's arm was cut off on the roof by the helicopter blade
  • when Carter and Lucy were attacked by a schizophrenic patient on Valentine's Day in the ER and Lucy died. EXTRA KLEENEX
  • when Neela decided to give up medicine and went to work at the convienence store across the street from the hospital
  • when Cynthia Nixon was a patient who had a stroke, but we could hear her thoughts and the episode was from her perspective – watching what was happening around her and the fact that she could not move or speak. OMG
  • when the ER was quarantined because of FREAKING MONKEY POX

In last season, Dr. Carter came back to the hospital and in the finale, we see him opening The Carter Center (or something like that, it's been a few years, I can't remember everything). Lots of doctors who had left the show came back for the finale to see Carter and in the sweetest moment, we see Rachel Greene (Dr. Green's now 22 year-old daughter) touring the hospital during med school. And it was the original actress who played Rachel. I cried like I knew these people.

Here is a clip from the retrospective that was on before the finale.

random lundi gras

Today is Lundi Gras, or Fat Monday in New Orleans. If you're me, every Monday is Lundi Gras. That also goes for every day of the week.

You're allowed to laugh with me.

I'm watching a Hoarding: Buried Alive marathon. I like it when they start clearing stuff out and find pianos that the owners forgot were there.

The ScrapFest! t-shirt is almost finished. It's all over but the tweaking.

I just cried writing about the show I picked for tomorrow's TV blog. I am a dork. It has nothing to do with Hoarders.

Do I need to tell you how happy I am that the daughters have decided they do not want to play softball this spring? I may buy them trophies just because.

I have a new idea for the next big History Channel/A&E/TLC hit. Prawn Stars will follow New Orleans chefs who cook seafood. The main chef will be Chef Handsome John Besh. This is a brazillion dollar idea. Plus, lots of good food.

This is Mardi Gras week. A lot of people I know are going to parades tomorrow. A lot of other people from my area are going skiing. These are not activities people with anxiety enjoy. I will be working from home tomorrow (and maybe shopping online).

The 8 year-old needs a shoe box for a diorama she has to make, so I guess I have to buy new shoes. Darn.

I dropped my iphone (in a case) on the tile floor today and it wouldn't work for 15 minutes. I had a small heart attack.

My back hurts.

You know an episode of Hoarders is going to be good when the son-in-law shows up with a mullet and do-rag.

The hubs and I were watching tv the other night and a commercial came on for some cosmetic dentist. We thought it was fake because the before pictures were SO bad. I assumed it was fake SNL commercial. It wasn't.

Can we ban commercials that say the word "regular" and feature people smiling about constipation?

Also – commercials for diapers with the song "Whomp – There it is."

29 day television challenge: day 20 – favorite relationship

Liz and Jack from 30 Rock.

They're best friends, but he's her boss and mentor. They would be the odd couple if they were a couple, but they're not. They are perfect for each other in a lot of ways, but JUST NO.

By the way, Jack stroking Liz's back with a broom when whe's sick is exactly why they are my favorite.
