7.129/366: met gala 2024

Welcome back for my Met Gala wrap-up. I’ve scoured the interwebs and found most of the images I wanted to post: the good, the bad, and the “what were they thinking?” Again, here’s the explanation of the theme:

Anna Wintour’s co-chairs for the evening are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. This will be Hemsworth’s first time attending the ball, while the other three co-chairs have participated in previous years. The theme of “The Garden of Time” is drawn from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The garden party theme is already in full bloom as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s stairway is adorned with hundreds of fake flowers. This gala complements the Met’s current exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

The Great

Alia Bhatt is stunning.

The Good

They’re good, some are really good. I

The Meh

The Nekkid

This is a new category due to so many people forgetting to wear clothes.

The men and couples.

First, Rita Ora and Taika Watiti. He’s in an all-leather suit. In May. She is wearing a nude bodysuit with beads from the second century B.C. I’m serious — that’s what she said. Ora said her look was inspired by the Garden of Eden, which would have been the first garden. I love this take, but the look is so bad.

Most of these did not upload correctly. The images reverted to the uncropped versions and I tried several times to fix them before giving up. I apologize, this is far below Kerry Blog standards.

The WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

I’m including all of the metallic dresses because it wasn’t that they were metallic – they were super metallic.

Kim Kardashian is here because her corset has her waist so tight that people on the interwebs are concerned for her internal organs. She had this to say to Vogue:

The “Kardashians” star explained that she was trying to look like she was in a rush after having “the wildest night” of her life “in a garden.”

“And I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater and threw it on and had to get to work,” she added, laughing about the look she was going for. “My hair is all messed up.”

“How’s your breathing? How’s it going” a voice asks off-camera before Kardashian replies, “It’s … it’s an art form. But I got it.”

She oddly had the gray cardigan on and people speculated that she had a wardrobe malfunction, and though she says otherwise, I agree. Kim kept pulling the sweater off her right shoulder, showing off her bust, but held the left side tight throughout the red carpet walk. To remind you, in 2022, she wore a fur coat over the back of Marilyn Monroe’s dress because it would not zip up. It’s not like we don’t know she’s done this sort of thing before. The waist makes me ill because she has daughters and they’re seeing this. She didn’t have to wear a corset that gives her a 17-inch waist (I’m guessing). Why wear something you admit makes you struggle to breathe? Make it make sense, Kim.

Ending with Lana del Rey, Princess of the Forest. Yes, those are sticks on her head.

7.128/366: met gala preview

The Met Gala red carpet is happening now. Here’s the info on this year’s theme and a preview of what’s coming in my wrap-up tomorrow.

From Variety:

The 2024 Met Gala is live and the fashion is in full bloom.

Here are two people I’ve never heard of in a group of 400 attendees. The guest list is incredibly exclusive and Vogue takes the Gala more serious than you could imagine. The First Monday in May is a great documentary about it.

I looked them up. She’s a former Disney Channel girl who is trying to break out of the child actor thing.

7.123/366: may

It’s going to be a busy month. The youngest kid has his high school graduation. How wild is that? We’re going to have family in, which is fine, but stressful because my anxiety has anxiety.

We’re having trees trimmed tomorrow. I’ve started decluttering downstairs. We need to downsize. I’m not having a dining room in my next house.

I removed years’ worth of adhesive and attached my new state inspection sticker on my car today. Why didn’t I know how many things WD-40 could do until now? Y’all been gatekeeping WD-40?

7.121/366: oh romeo

This meme is 100% correct. I’ve been saying this since 9th grade. IIt bothered me even then. IIt wasn’t even a relationship. It was the promise of a relationship. I don’t know how the play is taught now, but I hope it is in context as to when it was written. Kathryn Howard was approximately 15 when she was married to King Henry VIII, which would be around one generation prior to Shakespeare’s writing. The ages for marriages then were common because of the time.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy. It’s not romantic. There is nothing romantic about it. There are lovely platitudes, but it’s no great romance. It’s a tragedy. It was always a tragedy.
