4.34/365: for comparison

A bit of UK history via Wikipedia on The Gunpowder Plot (when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up The House of Lords).

“The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in earlier centuries often called the Gunpowder Treason Plot or the Jesuit Treason, was a failed assassination attempt against King James I by a group of provincial English Catholics led by Robert Catesby.

“The plot was revealed to the authorities in an anonymous letter sent to William Parker, 4th Baron Monteagle, on 26 October 1605. During a search of the House of Lords in the evening on 4 November 1605, Fawkes was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder—enough to reduce the House of Lords to rubble—and arrested. Most of the conspirators fled from London as they learned of the plot’s discovery, trying to enlist support along the way. Several made a stand against the pursuing Sheriff of Worcester and his men at Holbeche House; in the ensuing battle, Catesby was one of those shot and killed. At their trial on 27 January 1606, eight of the survivors, including Fawkes, were convicted and sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered.”

So yeah, England executed the people who tried to blow up Parliament.

We had an insurrection last month where people were calling for the execution of our leaders, (which happened to include the top three politicians in succession to the President) and our country is considering letting one of the insurrectionists go to MEXICO ON VACATION.

Sweet Anerican Jesus. Really.

4.32/365: y’all, I’m on the TikToks

I’ve been watching the TikToks because it makes me laugh. Today I had a reason to make a TikTok. A person asked for favorite political moments.

This is a clip I think of all the time.

I’m @RedheadWalking on the TikToks. It’s an R.E.M. song and I’m a redhead and sometimes I walk. I’m not saying they write a song about me, but you can’t prove they didn’t.

4.26/365: the vaccine

I’m the last person who wants to write about the vaccine for COVID 19, but I saw an Unspirational quote today and wanted to post it.

On the local Houston news tonight, it was reported that my county has made it nearly impossible to find where you have to register for vaccination. It was hidden behind several pages on the county’s website. The reporter spoke to someone a little younger than me who said a grandparent would have to get a grandchild or niece to help them find the link to register for the vaccine.

The last administration made the rollout of the COVID 19 vaccine bad enough, why are local officials making it worse? If the goal is to get as many people vaccinated as safely and quickly as possible, why make it harder?

We all know it’s been ridiculous. There should have been a clear national program, but there wasn’t and now people are confused and more people will get sick while waiting for vaccines. I do think the current administration will get it right, but the states are a mess right now. Other countries did it right, and we could have done the same had we not had the last president involved.

It’s frustrating that my 70-year-old parents can’t find the vaccine. One parent is three-year cancer survivor, the other has several comorbidities. Am I concerned? Yes. I’m concerned for them and I’m frustrated at national, state, and local governments.

Let’s all hope and let’s pray vaccines and made more readily available very soon. In the meantime, I will pray for all of our families.
