4.163/365: WordPress can’t stop

This is enough to make me write a real blog post.

These WordPress app updates keep getting more ridiculous. Not only do I have to go through eight steps to post a photo (no exaggeration), I have to close the app to add another photo from my device. I can’t just select another photo.

Yes, they’ve made the app prettier, but less functional. If you hit Return, it opens another text box. You can make it whatever kind of box you want, but still — it’s not a flowing blog post like it used to be in the old app. Oh, let me show you!

This is the screen you see when you open the app.

You have to hit “Blog Posts” to see your posts, which I always do so I can see the previous title and make sure I’m up to date.

This is the Blog Posts screen.

This screen shows my last posts. Then I hit the blue New button you saw on the previous screen. THIS IS WHERE THE NEW UPDATE MAKES ME CRAZY.

Why on Earth does WordPress think it’s a social media platform now? Story Post? No. This is not Instagram or Facebook or Twitter. WordPress began as a great blogging platform. Back in the day there was Blogspot and WordPress, then Live Journal, then Typepad. I have used all of them and I’ve gone back to WP four times. I’ve used the free version, a paid WP website, and now a WP blog with my own URL.

WordPress was simple to use and now they keep making it more complicated. See below.

All of those icons are things you can insert into a blog post. This could be a drop-down menu and not take up half the screen. This is not helpful in any way. It’s not needed.

At this point, WordPress should either fully commit and be a social blog site or go back to what made it great in the first place. It will probably be the former and I’ll either switch or keep hating it. I don’t like either option.
