7.254/365: pancho’s

For those of y’all who aren’t from Louisiana or Texas, Pancho’s was an all you can eat Mexican buffet with tons of dishes and a tiny Mexican flag to raise at the table if you want drink refills or more enchiladas. You have to see the video.

Pancho’s was a mainstay of my childhood. Where else can you take your family for $7.99 a person for dinner PLUS sopaipillas?

There are only two locations left — one in my town in the Houston area and one — the one I grew up going to in Bossier City, LA. I can’t say if they measure up to what I remember, but if you go to either, let me know ow if the cheese enchiladas are still the bomb.

I remember these posters in the library when I was growing up.

The Greatest Posters of Celebrities Urging You to Read

In Which James Folta Bravely Attempts to Rank the Iconic ALA Series

By James Folta

July 18, 2024 The American Library Association has for nearly 40 years been putting out “Read” posters featuring celebrities and books. Lots of us remember these from school and libraries—my elementary school had the Shaq one guarding the reference books section.

Nhen I set out to compile a list of these posters, my initial thought was to gather all of them, but I quickly found that to be impossible: There are so many of them. Just, so many. And until some enterprising library sciences student puts together the definitive archive, we’re stuck scouring the ALA website and eBay poster reseller pages.

7.248/366: flour

I think this ever time I use flour. Sugar is the same way. This and why don’t cereal boxes have recloseable bags? I am far from the first person to ask this. Most things need recloseable bags if they come in a bag. Batteries are mostly still all in a package of cardboard and plastic that never goes back together. Birthday candles are the same way. The battery and candle people are in cahoots. My biggest pet peeve is with the toilet pap we companies. They make a pack of 6 and on the package it will say 6 mega rolls = 9 regular rolls. Then a 12-pack will say 12 mega rolls = 32 regular rolls. The math ain’t mathin’ as the kids say.

The grocery companies need to get it together.
