And now, the promo for TLC's new show "Sarah Palin's Alaska."
Yes, she really said “I’d rather be doing this than in some stuffy old political office. I’d rather be out here bein’ free.”
Full disclosure: I've never been president or vice president, so I can't be absolutely positive, but I believe there is a great deal of office stuff involved. Good thing she and McCain weren't elected — it totally would have cramped her style, man.
There hasn't been a Tunes You Need Tuesday in quite some time, but Ben Folds put out a new album, so I'm bringing it back, baby.
Lonely Avenue is the new album by Folds with lyrics by author Nick Hornby. Yes, Nick Hornby, author of High Fidelity and About a Boy. If you've read Hornby's novels or seen the films based on them, you know that music plays an important part in all of his work, but it's rare to see a novelist turned songwriter.
My review: Hornby and Folds make a dynamite combination. I'm a fan of both, but together they really bring it. The lyrics are great – very much a story-telling vibe, something unlike anything you'll hear on the radio today and the music is pure Folds.
Folds and Hornby introduce the album and explain how it was written as well as have excerpts of the songs in this lovely little video.
This is "From Above." Folds says Hornby wrote it about soulmates and how we must pass each other on the street, never meeting.
And because after hearing it I said "wow," here is "Levi Johnston's Blues." Yes, as in Bristol Palin's baby daddy. The chorus is from his My Space page. It's kind of insane. In a good way.
I'm sure I'll post more as more live videos pop up on the You Tube, as I'd rather give you the videos rather than just the audio. I do love the Ben Folds live videos, he's such a great performer. So enjoyable, just like the new album.
My 80's playlist was on. Here is part of the soundtrack:
And after my drive I decided everyone needs the lyrics to "Don't Get Me Wrong," so here they are. It might just be fantastic.
"Don't Get Me Wrong" The Pretenders
Don't get me wrong If I'm looking kind of dazzled I see neon lights Whenever you walk by
Don't get me wrong If you say hello and I take a ride Upon a sea where the mystic moon Is playing havoc with the tide Don't get me wrong
Don't get me wrong If I'm acting so distracted I'm thinking about the fireworks That go off when you smile
Don't get me wrong If I split like light refracted I'm only off to wander Across a moonlit mile
Once in awhile Two people meet Seemingly for no reason They just pass on the street Suddenly thunder, showers everywhere Who can explain the thunder and rain But there's something in the air
Don't get me wrong If I come and go like fashion I might be great tomorrow But hopeless yesterday
Don't get me wrong If I fall in the 'mode of passion' It might be unbelievable But let's not say so long It might just be fantastic Don't get me wrong
I watch Food Network at night when there is nothing on tv, mainly for background noise because I'm usually online anyway and not paying attention to whatever is on the television. I enjoy the Food Network. It's kind of humorous. I love Iron Chef America for that reason. It is a spinoff of Iron Chef, the amazing Japanese show, but of course it has been Americanized. The Chairman runs the show and is supposed to be the nephew of the Japanese chairman, but I'm pretty sure he's an actor because COME ON. Supposedly the Chairman assembled the American Iron Chefs and holds these fantastic tournaments of cooking skill with secret ingredients. It's the secret ingredients that are the real star of the show. Someone put a video together of the Chairman announcing all the secret ingredients and I must say — it's loltastic.
Do you watch The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo? The season premier is like literally on tonight. That show is bananas. To celebrate the premier, Jezebel.com made a compilation of all the times Rachel has said "literally."
Just when you thought I couldn't feature Ben Folds in any other way — HA! I go and serve up my favorites from the University A Cappella contest on You Tube. This is enjoyable stuff.
This is a great song, done well by the Spartones. Love the energy.
"Gone" is one of my favorite songs period. Well done.
Shut up. That was great. And color coordinated.
"Zak and Sara" works well as an a cappella song. I think this guy moonlights as DJ Lance on Yo Gabba Gabba. I'm not kidding.
Hope y'all enjoyed the a cappella stuff. It's a fun change from the norm, I suppose. Plus, they're Benny songs.
The Second City Network made a video with a certain cartoon mermaid saying what I've been telling people for years.
I know I'm not the only woman ruined by the Disney princess films.
I waited for my Prince Charming to come on a white horse, but he wasn't a prince and at the time he drove a Nissan Maxima. Now he drives an Explorer. I'm not sure if he's ever been on a horse.
Sadly, I cannot communicate with woodland creatures and they have never made me a dress or cleaned my house.
Oh, and back in the day, I tried being someone I wasn't to win a guy too. That never works. I could write a non-bestselling book of tips on how not to win a guy. Remind me to do that one day.
I hope The Second City Network makes this a series. I think Snow White's advice would be superb.
It's Kerry here with your summer birthday gift guide for those hot people in your life born in June, July, and August. You may know someone with a birthday coming up, don't worry – I'm here to help.
Maybe the person you're shopping for is one crafty mo' fo'. You know what I'm talking about. She's got 2 glue guns – low and hot temp, has a speck of glitter on her face for no reason whenever you see her, and refers to her scrapbooking friends as the Crafty Gangstas.
She could use this set of stamps.
And because it's awesome, here's the video, "Crafty" by J-Krafty.
Some people have been known to break into your house and decoupage your mama if they don't get a birthday gift. Just sayin'.
