Hmm. I instantly thought of two songs: “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “Second Star to the Right” from the Stay Awake album of Disney soundtrack covers. It’s an odd album that I’ve had forever. Ringo Starr, Bonnie Rait, Suzanne Vega, The Replacements, Tom Waits, James Taylor, Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe – you can’t get a more interesting combination.  I highly suggest getting it.

“Confetti” by The Lemonheads will always remind me of someone. No, I’m not naming names today.

There wasn’t a clear-cut summer song for me this year, but “Riptide” by Vance Joy comes close. I love the idea of a “left hand man.”

I have a few best friends, so I have a few songs.

“Islands in the Stream” reminds me of Dana (because Dana wants to be Dolly when she grows up).

Anything by Kenny Rogers reminds me of Kim (because she’s Country Kim and we bought his tape in the LA Tech bookstore back in the day). Also, the Counting Crows album August and Everything After reminds me of her because we went to their concert in 1996/7.

Hillary is an old school New Kids on the Block fan and has seen them in concert several times, so I’d have to say “The Right Stuff.”

And Will sang “Here Comes the Sun” to me at least 500 times while learning to play the guitar when we were in high school. He also made me sing when he was learning new Beatles songs and I did because that’s what best friends are for.

No question. The song that gets stuck in my head the most is “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” by The Beatles. It’s my shower song, it’s my feel good song, it’s my classic Paul “woohoo” song, although it’s more of a “knew-hoo”.

“And so I quit the police department and got myself a steady job, and though she tried her best to help me – she could steal, but she could not rob” is one of the finest lyrics I’ve ever heard. Oh, yeah.

 

Longtime readers will know that I love The Beatles and they will appear on this list a couple of times. Their first appearance is for a song that calms. “I’ll Follow the Sun” has a gorgeous melody and my sweet Paul’s voice, it’s calming and steady, hopeful and bittersweet at the same time. I just love it.

My parents are crazy like everyone’s parents are crazy, but you know how your parents are crazy on a level only you understand? Yeah. My dad called me one day a few years ago and asked me how to get “Born to Be Wild” as his ringtone.

Hi, I’m Kerry and welcome to the lamest thing I’ve ever written.

Let’s be real. My most recent ex-boyfriend was in 1993 because I also met my future husband that year as well. So, let’s talk about Judd. I’ve written about him before because it included the time we were stranded at a New Year’s Eve party and guys named Ray Ray and Tiny volunteered to drive us home. Judd was interesting. He gave me Koosh ball for Christmas. Remember Koosh balls? He cut his hair into a mushroom-looking shape before Adam Duritz did it with his dreads. Just imagine that for a minute.

There were other songs, but the song that reminds me of Judd is “Somewhere Out There” from the American Tail soundtrack because we made out while watching that movie once early in our relationship and once you’ve made out to an animated movie, what else is going to stick in your head?

I promise this will be the worst song in this challenge.

Come on, there is no other song. Errrybody is on this song. Well, almost. It’s “We Are the World.”
