I know you can’t read the little sign on the basket, but this is from the drying area of my nail place.
The sign says: “for your safety. Please put your toe seperator in the basket before you leave. Thank you”.

As you know, there is no judging on The Kerry Blog. Just love and acceptance. And a little judging, but mostly love and stuff.
It's Sunday and time to rewind. You know how it goes, I'll tell you a little about a band from the 80's playlist on my iPod and hopefully find the original videos from YouTube.
Today it's ABC! I love me some ABC. Martin Fry and company are still fab in my opinion. They're another one of my British synth bands and yes, Martin has the floppy hair I love, even if he is blond (can't hold that against him). Martin gave singing and dancing lessons to Hugh Grant for the film Music and Lyrics, and if you watch the videos you'll see why. And my guy could rock a tux back in the day, y'all. And the gold tux — shut up. So fabulous.
Here are "When Smokey Sings," "Poison Arrow," and "The Look of Love." Enjoy. Next week I'll dig up something equally amazing, although I doubt the band will be as well dressed as ABC. ABC gets my Snazzy Dressers of the 80's Award that I just made up.
Hey peeps. Just thought I'd check in with y'all and say hi. The next two weeks are going to be super hectic because it's crunch time for ScrapFest! and I may not be posting as often until after the event, but you never know. Somehow I manage to make time for my peeps, even when it's crazytown around here.
I have a post in mind, but as usual, I'm trying to decide if the idea is brilliant or stupid. Most of the time that's my dilemma. I believe there is a fine line between the two, hopefully it will lean toward brilliant. I'll settle for decent.
Tomorrow is Sunday Rewind, so get your legwarmers and skinny ties ready!
In reading Shapely Prose yesterday I came across a new brilliant idea, the F*ckit List, which is the exact opposite of the Bucket List, the list of things you want to accomplish before you die. I love this idea, probably because I'm truly a pessimist. I've always called myself an optimistic pessimist, if that makes any sense (it does to me). I try to see the silver lining around each cloud, but I tend to the think silver is most likely lead. It's a gift I have.
So, here's my F*ckit List, things I have no intention of doing before I die:
When I think of bands I could listen to no matter my mood, Gin Blossoms is right up there with Natalie Merchant, Lemonheads, and REM. Gin Blossoms were one of the first bands to master the power pop genre and they still do it well. I love this band for their sound and lyrics. And how can you not love a band who takes its name from a phrase about W.C. Fields' nose? I love a rock band with a sense of humor.
My first experience with Gin Blossoms was their 2nd album and first major label release, New Miserable Experience in 1992. This album is a classic in alternative power pop that debuted when Nirvana and Pearl Jam and the rest of the grunge bands were enjoying a heyday. New Miserable Experience was a breath of fresh air to me, as I hated the grunge bands and was waiting for a band like Gin Blossoms to come along. The album yielded some great tunes, including "Found Out About You" and "Hey Jealousy," which both went to #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Many of the songs on the album deal with drinking, unrequited love, and complicated relationships. "Mrs. Rita" is about seeing a tarot card reader for advice on love — not something you hear everyday. I found some great footage of Gin Blossoms in Chicago from their DVD, so here's a treat: "29" and "Cheatin." "Cheatin" has a country flair and has a great line, "you can't call it cheatin', she reminds me of you."
Turns out the still had it. Gin Blossoms released Major Lodge Victory in 2006 and it's a good album. The word on the street is Gin Blossoms is working on a new album for this year and I can't wait. If you haven't given the band a listen until now I hope you'll find them as fun as I do. I'll leave you with "Learning the Hard Way" from Major Lodge Victory, it's a great song for a Tuesday.
As I was looking for inspiration for ScrapFest! tee shirts and came across some great old pin-up illustrations (don't ask) and Andrew comes over to check out what I'm doing when he sees the picture below and yells "MOMMY!"
Her name is Hilda, she was a pin-up from the 60's to the 80's and of course she was plus-sized and a redhead, usually pictured in funny situations. Hilda is the only bbw pin-up I've ever heard of and I think she's pretty cute.
I have to say, if I were a pin-up, this would be me — yawning, double chin and all.
Last week we took at trip back to the 80's with Thompson Twins, this week it's another great synth band, Human League. I was quite disheartened that my favorite Human League video on You Tube has embedded disabled, so you'll have to go there to see "(Keep Feeling) Fascination". I can't imagine there is a great demand for Human League vids, but whatevs.
Human League are a fab British new wave band who made some great tunes back in the day and are still recording, still touring, still going strong. The three must-have tracks for you 80's iPod playlist are "(Keep Feeling) Fascination," "Human," and of course "Don't You Want Me." The first is a video is a live version of the song (definitely not as good as the original) and the other two videos are the oridinal 80's goodness. I must say I'm disappointed that the lead singer doesn't wear makeup anymore and he's shaved his head, no more sexy floppy hair that I love. Someone has to bring back the floppy hair. Since Hugh Grant's gone shorter all the other guys have too and it's just not right. Throw me a bone here, I don't ask for much.
Enjoy the Sunday rewind! Next week: the floppy-haired Brit band ABC. Lead singer, Martin Fry gave my boy Hugh Grant singing and dancing lessons for Music and Lyrics, so you know he's got street cred. Okay, maybe not street cred — oh shut up, this daylight savings has me all messed up and I need a vacation.
I'm in a mood. I couldn't really tell you why, I'm just in a mood, pick your reason. So, I went up to my happy place — the scrap/office and took pictures of some of my fave layouts from a couple of years ago that I came across while trying to organize. The key word there is trying. I think I need a big giant scanner for my scrapbook pages. The scrap/office is almost complete, I need to hang a few more things and organize, but I thought you might enjoy a pic of the "in progress" stage.
This is a really simple layout I did for Molly's 6th birthday. The photos were grainy, but I liked the look. I filled one of the Heidi Swapp hearts with beads and liked the way it turned out.
Katie is our middle child. She is moody, serious, funny, wacky, sweet, and mean and I have no idea where all that comes from. One day at McDonalds all those facets came out and I photographed her. The paper I used is from Basic Grey's Blush line.
I'm only putting this one up to show y'all the cat that ran away. This layout pretty much sucks — I've never liked it because it's themey and I hate themey scrapbooking, but whatev. Tinkerbell was Molly's cat we adopted when Andrew was born and the cat was full-on crazy. Her favorite thing to do was to jump out and bite you when you turned a corner. Seriously. Tinkerbell was psycho. I had two really great cats prior to getting this one, so I was not prepared for the cat from hell. One day about 6 months ago, she jumped out and bit Molly and I threw the cat outside, like I had done a dozen times. She always meowed for a while and I'd let her back in, well this time, she hit the road, never to be seen again. I'm sure some poor family took her in and she's terrorizing them now.
This is a layout I did at least two years ago, before the doodling thing in scrapbooking really took off. I've always been a pioneer (in my own mind). The flower stems are some of the lyrics to "My, How You've Grown" by 10,000 Maniacs.
"'My, how you've grown.' I remember that phrase from my childhood days
too. 'Just wait and see.' I remember those words and how they chided
me, when patient was the hardest thing to be. Because we can't make up
for the time that we've lost, I must let these memories provide.
I should have known. At your age, in a string of days the year is
gone. But in that space of time, it takes so long."
More scrapbooky stuff to come, as it's uncovered in due time.
I'm not sure why I find CNN's practical advice stories so funny about what not to do in certain situations. Well, maybe for starters they tell you what not to do, instead of advising you what to do in the first place. CNN loves to give us advice because there is obviously no real news to report (sarcasm, people) and as everyone knows, it's fun to tell people what they're doing wrong.
So, I thought I'd take CNN's numbered things you shouldn't hide from your doctor, but as usual,
rejecting their reality and substituting my own. Once again, CNN's words are ittalicized and the words
following the colons are mine, not CNN's (got that lawyer boys? don't
sue me). And I'm obviously not a doctor, but I watch Grey's Anatomy and House, so I'm practically board certified or certifiable, something like that. Whatevs.
From finances to sex, bathroom habits to spousal relationships,
herbs to illicit drugs, here are 10 things about which you should
always be open with your doctor.
Don't hide from your doctor the fact that you:
1. Smoke, drink excessively, do illegal drugs
Yeah, you'd better tell your doc if you're a crack whore or if you enjoy a 3 martini lunch, happy hour, and a nightcap everyday. Of course your "excessive" might be my "moderate," so this could get touchy. As for me, I have doctor appointments for the next two Tuesdays and I'm going to tell my doctors I plan to start drinking.
2. Have peeing or pooping issues
Don't play around with those issues. Fortunately you can't die of embarrassment.
3. Take herbs
Oh hell no. Are people still taking herbs? I thought that was a fad. People, the only herbs you should be using are found in your local grocery store and are called INGREDIENTS. I took cinnamon tablets a few years ago because I heard it helped you lose weight. The only thing it helped me lose was $20.
4. See a chiropractor or an alternative healer
It's a good idea to keep your doctors informed of your visits to the chiropractor if they don't know about that. Better to keep all your healthcare providers in the know. You might want to mention those visits to the voodoo queen in the French Quarter and the medicine man too, but your doc may be tipped off by the necklace with the chicken foot you're wearing and the odor of clove and hippopatamus musk about you.
5. Are having financial troubles
If you're broke and can't afford lots of tests, tell your doc. If you have sucky insurance or a super high deductable let your doctor know. If you've spent all your money on crack, booze, and voodoo healing you might want to mention that as well.
6. Want cheap medicine
By all means, if there is a cheaper drug that will do the same thing, ask for it. It's okay to be cheap sometimes. Now, don't tell your doctor I said that when you're sitting in the exam room when you've got your Christian-Louboutin-feet in stirrups with your Louis Vuitton in your lap. Don't be tacky.
7. Feel depressed or anxious or stressed out
There is a big difference between a little everyday stress and dropping your basket. I don't want to hear about you on the news, like my grandfather says. I've had family members on the news, that's why I told my doc about my anxiety. Remind me to tell y'all about my dad's stories from the family reunion I didn't go to (read: will never go to). One part involves the aunt that gave us Crown Royal bags full of change for Christmas, so you know it's a good story.
8. Defied the doctor's orders
Damn. If you aren't doing what your doctor tells you to do — just do what your doctor tells you to do. He or she went through a lot of learnin' to be able to tell you about your health and what is best for you. You read WebMD and the health section of Cosmo. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out who knows some stuff (hint: it's not you — unless you are a doctor, and no "Dr. Feelgood" doesn't count).
9. Don't exercise and eat badly
I haven't lost any weight since my last doctor visits, so I'm pretty sure my diet of champions and Olympic athlete-trained bod will tip my docs off to the obvious.
10. Have a small problem you think is unimportant
Some small things aren't so small. And ignoring medical conditions won't make them go away. Once I ignored symptoms of asthma until I was thisclose from being admitted to a hospital in Georgia. Being really sick isn't fun.
Here's my favorite part of the article:
So
how do you get the guts to admit these things to your doctor? "You can
just say to the doctor, 'Hey, this is embarrassing for me to talk
about. This is hard for me. This is a taboo topic,' " Rackner suggests.
Another option: Tell the nurse, if you feel like you connect with her better.
A third idea: "If your doctor does e-mail, try that, or just write a
note," says Rackner. "Some people do better writing things than saying
them."
It's the last line that I love, the third idea. I'm going to bring a note along with me to the gynecologist that says "Dr. B — am I a good candidate for a booby reduction? Circle yes or no. xxxooo, Kerry"
I love the written word and I'm excellent at making a fool out of myself, so I think this is a great plan. I'm a communication junkie; I wish we had email and text messaging when I was young and stupid (it would have made getting rejected and rejecting others much faster than writing notes and passing them in class or waiting until you got home to call someone.) I'm thinking of brining a dry-erase board with me to communicate with my doctors– heck, you never know when you may need to draw a diagram or something.
