Long time readers know that I love F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. I’ve written about them several times. I came across a quote supposedly attributed to Scott today and thought about it.

It’s beautiful, truly beautiful. But it’s not Fitzgerald, it doesn’t sound like him unless you count his letters — to a point.
So, I thought this demanded research, as I cannot leave anything alone. After a few minutes of good old fashioned Googling, I found out it was from the film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is based on Fitzgerald’s short story of the same name. But the quote isn’t in the text. Curious, indeed. I surmise the rather lovely quote to be that of the film’s screenwriter, Eric Roth (it most certainly was not Brad Pitt).
Bravo, Mr. Roth. Nicely done. He also wrote the screenplays of Forrest Gump, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, A Star is Born, and many, many more aside from doing our Mr. Fitzgerald a great treatment on a great story.
