Did you watch 120 Minutes back in the day when MTV still played music? I miss that show. It was a fantastic show to find new music, specifically modern rock, which is what I listened to then and still love now. I wish there was a music channel (that played good music) and that they would give me a show introducing new bands to the people. That is part 2 of my dream job (part 1 being my magazine writer career, but that was before all the magazines started folding).
I remember watching The Pixies on 120 Minutes and thinking how cool bassist Kim Deal was. The Pixies were a band that came out at the same time as lots of modern rock bands, but they were different. Today you can hear their influence in bands like Radiohead. And you should be able to hear the new Pixies album soon from what hear on the interwebs.
Here are my two favorite Pixies songs, "Gigantic" and "Here Comes Your Man."
"Here Comes Your Man" is still pretty fantastic 20 years later. It's one of those songs.
